BAby with Reflux

Two weeks after birth we discovered that Yoofie had reflux. I was devastated! i had already started giving him the bottle and he didn't like nursing pretty much. He is taking Zantac and he is doing well. He developing pretty well for a baby with reflux. What I learned from observing him and from reading materials on reflux is eating is very painful so he arch his back, stretch, kick his legs and groan when he is eating. sometimes you have to pause for him to take a breath. After eating you let him sit upright or hold him for at least 30minutes to an hour to let the food settle. I always put him to sleep on a pillow and i let him lie on his side or his tummy. Of course i keep a monitor in his room to make sure he is fine. you can reduce spit ups if you follow this guidelines. He likes to eat lying on his back and his doctor says its fine as long as it makes him comfortable. He used to take 4oz every 2hours now he take between 5-6oz every 3hours and to me he is getting better. i don't remember the last time he threw up or spit up. When he has a flare he will eat very little or nothing at all. I also do a lot of dream feeding. This is feeding him when he is asleep as oppose to when he is awake and in pain. As a parent with a reflux baby it can be overwhelming most times and you feel so helpless and tired and alone. Get all the support you can get from family and friends. And sometimes you need to step back and let someone take over. For me doing that will be a luxury since Yoofie won't take the bottle from anyone but me. I hear adding cereal to the breast milk or formula helps, but you have t deal with constipation as well and reflux and constipation don't go together. All the best to parents with babies with reflux, i hear it gets better.
