general observations

I'm sure you've all heard about Michelle Obama's trip to Europe and her fashions dos and don’ts? Personally, I think she is a great dresser, she dresses very simply, nice and chic. She doesn’t do too much suit and she wears what everyone wears with very simple accessories. I’m not a fashion expert but I didn’t find anything wrong with her clothes, not even the big bow on her dress. She doesn’t appear too formal or informal, she has her own style and she doesn’t follow the set dress codes for 1st ladies i.e. the skirt suits.

I’m sure you have also heard of the recent shootings in New York, North Carolina, and California, I don’t know if they are copycats, but it shows how stressed-out people are. Is the economy to be blamed? Let hope that it does not become something that we will see in the news daily because you don’t know when somebody in your neighborhood or in line at the store will go berserk and start shooting (God forbid). That is why it’s very important to pray before stepping out of your house. My prayers to the families and loved ones of those slain in the recent shootings.

BAby with Reflux

Two weeks after birth we discovered that Yoofie had reflux. I was devastated! i had already started giving him the bottle and he didn't like nursing pretty much. He is taking Zantac and he is doing well. He developing pretty well for a baby with reflux. What I learned from observing him and from reading materials on reflux is eating is very painful so he arch his back, stretch, kick his legs and groan when he is eating. sometimes you have to pause for him to take a breath. After eating you let him sit upright or hold him for at least 30minutes to an hour to let the food settle. I always put him to sleep on a pillow and i let him lie on his side or his tummy. Of course i keep a monitor in his room to make sure he is fine. you can reduce spit ups if you follow this guidelines. He likes to eat lying on his back and his doctor says its fine as long as it makes him comfortable. He used to take 4oz every 2hours now he take between 5-6oz every 3hours and to me he is getting better. i don't remember the last time he threw up or spit up. When he has a flare he will eat very little or nothing at all. I also do a lot of dream feeding. This is feeding him when he is asleep as oppose to when he is awake and in pain. As a parent with a reflux baby it can be overwhelming most times and you feel so helpless and tired and alone. Get all the support you can get from family and friends. And sometimes you need to step back and let someone take over. For me doing that will be a luxury since Yoofie won't take the bottle from anyone but me. I hear adding cereal to the breast milk or formula helps, but you have t deal with constipation as well and reflux and constipation don't go together. All the best to parents with babies with reflux, i hear it gets better.

Its been a while

Its been a while. You wont believe it, but it was difficult logging on to my own blog! i just couldn't remember my password for crying out loud! I started this blog when i became a new mummy to Nana. I had a lot of high hopes for my baby like she will nurse, poop and sleep without any problems. but when reality came crushing down my door the only way to channel my frustration was to blog some times. it worked wonders until my Nana turn 10 months. she became my perfect little angel- well she was not perfect, i had gotten used to motherhood i guess. Now i have a 4 month old adorable baby boy. He is definitely different from Nana but he has his issues as well. He weighed 8lb.13 oz. at birth and didn't cry as much as Nana did. He is different and special in his own kind of way. I don't have the same problems i had with Nana, but one thing i can say is that my Children are born-picky-eaters. My mum came this time around too and any time i moan over my babies disinterest in food and i scream not fair, not fair, she reminds me of the fact that i was the same and even worse when i was a baby, so i guess the fact that my kids have eating issues is genetic. Is that possible? His name is Yoofie ( i call him Fii) he is a big boy and has lot of hair. he started out very well ,but has been through a lot. I have lost my pregnancy weight and back to 131lbs , i still need to lose some 3 lbs and i will be fine. Belly is still an issues, but i have more time. I'm back blogging because i'm under a lot of stress and blogging as you all know helps you shed some of the load off. Its nice to be back!

consistency

My Nana is now 10 months old! She is a big girl now, she says very few words which very typical around this age. She says “hi and bye’. She is sleeping and oh she is taking the bottle now. She takes her naps at the same time everyday and sleep at the same time too. Consistency is the trick, babies love consistency.

If you have a 10 month old try the yoghurt and avocado blend they love it!

Infant Botulism

I read that honey, corn syrup and other sweeteners are dangerous for babies under 12 months and it can cause botulism. Because the digestive juices of babies are less acidic than older children and adults and maybe less likely to destroy ingested pores. Infant Botulism is a very dangerous disease and its the leading cause of 100 deaths per year in the US.
so please do not give your infants honey or corn syrup or any sweeteners, hold them off till they are a year old!
Here is something funny i read online- its about a 13 yr old boy who ( actually look and sound like an 8 yr old!) her girlfriend pregnant and she had a baby. here what he had to say "I thought it would be good to have a baby. I didn't think about how we would afford it. I don't really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10.” Alfie, who is just 4ft tall, added: “When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.I didn't know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.”

Love and Respect

Have you ever wondered why Ephesians 5 commands the Wife to respect her Husband and the Husband to Love his wife? I have pondered over it a couple of times and concluded it wasn't fair. But on Sunday my pastor couldn't have explained it better. He said God made man to need respect,. It defines who he is and respect or lack of it will determine what he is going to be. That is why a man who is respected by his wife thinks he can do anything. Women on the other hand need to be love, that is why a woman will want to sleep with a guy because she thinks it's love. It's the core of our being and God made us that way so that we will need Him! I guess this is something to think about eh?

Old wives Tale?

I thought my mum was the most superstitious person i had ever met. i mean when she came to visit she had all these ideas about babies and how to treat them. she believed that if your baby does something positive, you do not praise the baby rather you say it in negative terms. for instance she didn't want me to say my baby was a big baby becos saying that will make the baby skinny! (yeah ! right) im sure its the most ridiculous thing you've heard right?. well i think i'm starting to believe some of these tales or is it just coincidence? any time Nana does something positive like say she sleeps thru the night or she eats very well in a particular day and i blab about it to my friends, she will unleash her worst behavior either by not sleeping at all or cry when im feeding her. i was blabbing to my friend about how Nana was doing and that very day she woke up and won't sleep for hours! is it a coincidence or what? so now my approach is to be passive about her oh well! lets wait and see
